Our contract with you

In your experience with us, you can expect to see the following principles:

We will use a combination of methods, which can be adapted to your needs. A single teaching method is not acceptable.
We will reflect change, research and new ideas in our classes.
There will be a basis of spoken and written communication. You need to know how to use language within different contexts and situations, and with different speakers.
There will be a balance between accuracy and fluency, focusing on structure and vocabulary as well as the skills of speaking, writing, listening and reading.
The learning process will not end at the completion of the class. We will encourage you to take on responsibility for your own learning by means of homework, projects and use of other British Council resources.
There are no secrets in our method. We will explain the reasons behind the way we work. If you can see and appreciate the reason for doing something this will help you to achieve your own learning goals.
We recognise that many of our learners come from very different learning backgrounds and you may find our classes very different. We will explain the way we work and the reasons behind it.
We will always be ready to listen to you, as learners and as customers.

Our centre must meet your needs as clients who have the highest expectations. This is what you can expect from us.

The following are the standards we expect of our learners:

You should help us teach you by participating fully in your classes and by exploiting the learning opportunities we provide. Class work is teamwork between you, your fellow learners and your teacher.
You should try not to miss more than four classes in a term. If you do, your teacher may decide you have missed too much. It will then be necessary for you to repeat your course or complete a different one at the same level before you move up.
You should complete all homework tasks you are given. Homework is an essential part of the learning process, supporting and developing work you do in the class.
You should try to arrive on time. If you are often late, again you will miss things, and again your teacher will evaluate you very carefully before moving you up. They may decide you need to repeat your course or do a different one at the same level first.
You should accept our decisions regarding your progress. This is very important. The British Council shares your aims of learning the language and tries to ensure that you do this at the right speed and with the right input. During your time with us, you may need to repeat certain areas or try different courses to help you learn.
If your teacher decides you do need to do this before you move up you should accept their decision. You can of course ask to discuss this with your teacher. Please note it is not acceptable to pressurise a teacher or any other member of staff in order to change a result.

Remember:  we need to work together to help you learn. Enjoy your studies with us!
