What is it?

The scholarships is a programme of three courses of English language training at our teaching centre, over a one-year period, for fifteen people each year.

Why?

To enable selected employees of the Syrian government to develop their English language skills and make a positive contribution to their department.

Can I apply?

You can apply if you work for the Government of Syria and show that English Language skills will contribute to your job success. You also need to demonstrate good academic and career achievements and enthusiasm for learning English.

How can I apply?

Your employer, whether a governmental body or a Ministry, should write to the Ministry of Culture to nominate you. You need to know that being nominated does not guarantee a place on this scheme. This opportunity requires a serious commitment, both from you and from your employer. Please apply only if you are willing and able to make such a commitment.

What next?

Once we receive your nomination from the Ministry of Culture, you will be invited to complete an application form. In order to maintain transparency and consistency each candidate will be invited to an interview at our centre. If your application is successful, you will be able to start your one-year English language programme at our centre.

Evaluation

At the end of each course the British Council will send the Ministry of Culture and your employer a full evaluation report. This will be prepared by your teacher at the British Council and will give information on your performance, progress and attendance. When you finish your one-year scholarship, the British Council and the Ministry of Culture will award you a certificate at a graduation ceremony.

What else do i get?

We want you to make maximum use of this scholarship. You will have full access to our resources on the internet and in the information centre.
