International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

If you are planning to take IELTS you may have some questions about the test application process. Here is a list of the most common queries. Please get in touch with us if you need more information.

Which exam date can I register for?
You can register for any IELTS date six months in advance.
What is the fee for the IELTS?
The fee is 9500 SP
Is there a deadline for registering?
There is no deadline but once a session is fully booked, we cannot accept any more registrations for it. This sometimes happens at peak times so it is best to book five weeks in advance.
What happens if I cannot attend?
You will be counted as absent (i.e. this test will not be counted as a test taken).   You will loose your full fees unless you are able to provide appropriate medical evidence to support your request.
What should I do if I want to postpone?
If you wish to postpone your test, you must inform the Exams Unit in writing at least five weeks prior to the test date.2000 S.P will be charged as a postponement fee.Candidates who request a postponement or cancellation within 5 weeks of the test date will be charged the full fee unless they are able to provide appropriate medical evidence to support their request for a refund. 2000S.P may be deducted from any refund.
What time should I arrive on the test day?
You must arrive by 08:30.
What should I bring with me?
Please bring your ID card or passport (you must have the same evidence of identity as the number entered on the application), a pen, a pencil, an eraser and a pencil sharpener.
What time does the exam finish?
This depends on the time of your oral interview. You will finish between 1.15 p.m. and 3.30 p.m.
When will I get my results?
Results are available 2 weeks after the exam date.
When and where can I receive my results?

If you sit the test in Damascus, you can pick up your results at the British Council in Damascus. If you take your test in Aleppo, the test results will be waiting for collection there.

Can I have another copy of my results?
Due to University of Cambridge regulations candidates will only receive one original copy of their Test Report Form plus five free originals to be sent directly to the receiving institutions if requested by them. We charge postal 565 SP per Test Report Form to be sent to the board.
Can I send someone to collect my test results?
Another person may collect your results as long as they have your ID card or passport and an authorisation letter written by you.
Can I get my results by phone, fax or email?
Results should never given over the phone nor by fax or e-mail.
Can I have my papers re-marked locally?
If there is a large difference between the 4 scores of your papers, your papers are re-checked automatically. However local re-marking is not available on request.
Can I have my papers re-marked elsewhere?
You can request for your papers to be re-marked in the UK. This service costs £60 and takes a minimum of 2 months.
How do I register?
We recommended you register at least five weeks before your desired exam date.   You need to fill in an application form with a copy of your passport and attach 2 recent passport sized photographs.  You will have to show your original passport or ID card as a security check during registration and also on the exam day.
