Message from Federal Councillor Moritz Leuenberger
to the Youth Summit “Climate change and the impact on cities”

Be mad!

Hurricanes, high water, heat waves… the climate is going mad. We all know the reason: greenhouse gasses, carbon dioxide resulting from our massively increased energy consumption. And we all know precisely what has to be done: conserve energy and promote environmentally friendly energy sources.

With the Kyoto Protocol, the politicians who are in a position of influence today have managed for the first time to set up a plan of action for the climate. But its implementation is taking too long and important countries are refusing to play ball. This too is mad! It is for this reason that we need to make further efforts to preserve our climate. We need new, young politicians and scientists, and we need new ideas. It is your turn now. Be daring and develop mad ideas. – Our climate needs you.
