Climate Change and Public Health
Café scientifique in Switzerland

The British Council invites you to its CAFÉ SCIENTIFIQUE 2007 on
CLIMATE CHANGE AND PUBLIC HEALTH
in Geneva and Basel, March 14 & 16 2007

The increasing levels of man-made greenhouse gases, the international science community now agrees, are leading to global climate change. Consequences will include higher temperatures, rising sea levels, and an overall impact on global weather. These developments are likely to have serious repercussions on the habitats of countless organisms and will aversely affect the lives of millions of people and with it public health. Another factor, which has recently gained publicity is that climate change will also have a severe impact on business around the globe and thus on the world economy as a whole.

Speakers:
Young scientists specialising in atmospheric science and public health
from the UK, Switzerland, Canada, Finland and Bangladesh, brought together by the British Council Switzerland. Having worked with journalists, senior scientists and public figures in a series of workshops preceding the cafés scientifiques, these young scientists not only represent the cutting edge of research but they will also be happy to answer your questions and discuss views and ideas on climate change and public health.

Paul Munden will be reading some of his poems as an artist’s reaction to the topic.

Prof. Dr. em. Gian-Reto Plattner, former President of the States Council and former Vice-Rector of the University of Basel, will act as moderator for the Cafés Scientifiques in Basel and Geneva.

Everybody is welcome! Admittance is free; in addition we would like to invite you to an Apèro. The Café Scientifique will provide an informal setting where experts, members of the public, scientists, politicians and stakeholders can exchange views.
The cafés will be conducted in English.
