Talking Science

On 14 January the first FameLab competition in Switzerland took place at the theater hall of the University of Zurich. The winner is Fabian Jenny whose presentation related fly research to novel insights in cancer signaling. He and four other participants were selected to take part in the masterclass that will be held on 10 and 11 March in Hotel Worbenbad. For the videos please go here.

The competition in Geneva took place at CERN on 7 February. Registration had to be closed early due to the large number of registrations. Boris Lemmer, a particle physicist from CERN was the winner of the Geneva competition. For pictures please go here.

Boris, Fabian and eight others will participate in the masterclass and then go on to the finals which will take place at Bar-Bookshop Sphères, Hardturmstrasse 66, 8005 Zürich at 7pm on 30 March. Join us there! The winner of the Swiss Finals will go on to the Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK.

FameLab is an exciting competition to find the new voices of science and engineering. Over the past five years FameLab has been running in the UK in partnership with NESTA, and internationally in partnership with the British Council.

FameLab is an initiative of the Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK and this is the fourth year the contest is going international - now in twelve countries in Europe, Asia and Africa through the British Council network. The aim of FameLab is to encourage young scientists (18 to 35 years old) to inspire and excite public imagination with a vision of science in the 21st century. Watch the winners of 2011.
