Background

Nihal Arthanayake is a star in the British-Asian cultural firmament. He and Bobby Friction co-present a popular music show on BBC Radio 1, travel all over the world to DJ, and compile albums of Anglo-Indian subcontinent dance music fusing such diverse influences as Bollywood soundtracks and US hip hop. From desi hits to chemical brothers to hiphop anthems, everything is possible in Nihals mixes – he is a true DJ wizard, who understands perfectly how to put the whole crowd into complete ecstasy. Nihal will make this night a true reflection of contemporary Asian underground sounds.

Born to Sri Lankan parents in the London satellite town of Harlow, Nihal’s plans to be a lawyer were overtaken by his passion for music. Over the years he has been a rapper, promoter, manager, journalist, publicity agent and DJ. Nihal has his own monthly night at the Notting Hill arts club.

The event is being organised by Mahamaya in co-production with the Wasserwerk club.
