BRITISH COUNCIL IN EUROPE
British Council Sweden: Working together to build next generation Europe

Europe is changing and the British Council in Europe is changing with it.

From 2007 we have moved away from bilateral ways of working, which we have been doing up till now, in British Council Sweden's case, between Sweden and the UK, and stopped being a traditional cultural relations institute offering grants to support bilateral events and promotions. Instead, we aim to become a cultural relations partner, working multilaterally with countries across Europe.

This means that we are able to work on much larger and wider-reaching multilateral projects that impact across the whole of Europe. To do this we will be working in partnership with many different types of organisations.

Our projects are based on three overarching themes:

  • Building creative and responsible societies in Europe
  • Developing education and skills for a prosperous Europe
  • Intercultural dialogue in Europe

To get a clearer idea about the reach and impact of British Council Sweden’s work, read more about the information and services that we provide as well as our current projects and initiatives. You can also sign up for our monthly enewsletter to keep you informed about our events and activities.

The British Council in Europe is changing – but our aims and our passion for cultural relations remain the same.

THE BRITISH COUNCIL – WORLDWIDE

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational and cultural relations and works in 109 countries around the world. Our purpose is to build mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries and increase appreciation of the UK’s creative ideas and achievement.

Our work covers a wide range of areas including science, arts, education, governance and society.

In the UK the British Council is registered as a charity (not-for-profit-organisation) and operates as an executive non-departmental public body. We receive a grant from the British Government and are represented in 109 countries and 218 towns and cities around the world.

The British Council opened in Sweden in 1942.
