InterAction is a British Council initiative working within the framework of the African-led New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD). Working across 19 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, it aims to connect and inspire up-and-coming leaders throughout Africa, providing them with opportunities to share, learn and network with each other.

The leadership programme was the vision of a group from Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Nigeria who wanted to redefine what leadership meant in the African context, its problems and possibilities. Working with a group of leadership training providers from the UK, they created the principles and process of this innovative and unique leadership programme, which has been designed in partnership with and is delivered by African leadership professionals.
Through both international and in-country workshops, discussions and meetings, the programme aims to reach 1,500 men and women from Senegal to Mauritius, Sudan to South Africa. Participants will represent Africa’s diversity while sharing the desire to make a significant positive contribution to society.
A range of networking events will be organised to bring together up-and-coming leaders from Africa with their UK counterparts through a series of seminars, conferences and youth fora in order to generate new insights into Africa. The first networking event will focus on political transition, with future events highlighting a range of diverse issues such as science, music, business, politics, fashion and fine art.
Focussing on skills training for international communications, this programme will help new leaders engage more effectively on the international scene.
A specially designed InterAction website will enable tens of thousands of individuals across Africa to share their knowledge and expertise and to build and develop professional networks through virtual online communities. It will also allow events to be open to remote participation, thereby extending access to conferences and seminars.
