Opportunities in UK education

There are many universities in the UK offering research and taught postgraduate courses. Through our databases, links to online resources and face-to-face advice, we can introduce you to what's on offer and help you through the application process.

Why study in the UK?

The UK offers thousands of taught and research postgraduate courses that are respected and recognised throughout the world. UK research has an exceptional reputation; despite the country's size, it contributes almost a tenth of the world’s research output. Whatever your subject, you will be able to further your academic qualifications in an environment that attracts some of the best intellects to study at some of the best institutions in the world.

What taught qualifications are on offer?

Master’s degrees (such as Master of Arts, Master of Science and various specialisms, including Master of Laws and Master of Education)
Master of Business Administration (MBA), either general or specialist
Certificates and diplomas, such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), the Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert)
New Route Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

The most prestigious research degree is the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), the highest academic award available. You can also study for a Master's Degree in Philosophy (MPhil).

What are the entrance requirements?

Entry requirements vary according to institutions, but are usually the equivalent of a UK degree in a relevant subject. Sometimes your work experience could be an accepted alternative. The National Academic Recognition Information Centre UK (NARIC):provides more information about equivalencies. Taking an IELTS test will help you demonstrate your English language proficiency.

The Course Source is part of the UK government's National Grid for Learning project. You will find a search service for undergraduate, postgraduate, research degrees in the UK
HERO- Higher Education Research Opportunities is the official gateway site to the UK's universities, colleges and research organisations
British Council Information Sheets are designed to give you general information about studying in the UK
QAA or Quality Assurance Agency publishes reports which deal with the quality of British universities

How can you apply?

Applications are made directly to the university of your choice. You can get an application form from institutions websites throught the EducationUK website www.educationuk.org. You must ensure that the Higher Education institution you have selected is recognised as an awarding body. A full list of degree awarding bodies is available from DfES - Department for Education and Skills.
