Chevening Scholarships

The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK. Funded by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and administered by the British Council, the scheme operates in over 150 countries and annually provides funding for over 2,300 students.

Chevening Scholarships in Sudan?

In Sudan a number of leading local companies participate in the programme. Since the scheme began in Sudan in 1985 over 100 scholars have been supported and awarded scholarships.

What does the scheme cover?

Chevening Scholarships are fully-funded, covering course fees, a monthly stipend, arrival and departure allowances and return airfare, We also offer joint-funded scholarships, offering private and public sector organizations the opportunity to co-fund one of these prestigious scholarships.

The scholarship funds most Masters courses, running over a period of 12 months and this includes:

a gratis student visa
all your academic fees
a monthly allowance to cover living expenses
an arrival and departure allowance to help with travel
a book and clothing allowance
travel costs to and from the UK
the award is designed to cover basic living for one person.

Why should I choose a Chevening scholarship?

The Chevening scholarship is a prestigious award that gives the chance to experience a world renowned educational system. In addition, this provides you with the opportunity to experience UK life and meet other Chevening scholars.

Can I apply?

You can, if you are a postgraduate student who can prove your academic success and who has already begun a career in your chosen field. You'll be expected to show you have at least two years working experience, with an excellent track record illustrating your achievements, and evidence that you will become a leader in your chosen field. You will also need an upper second class degree or higher.

You must have good English Language skills. Most UK Higher Education Institutions require a minimum IELTS of 6.5 for admission onto postgraduate courses. In addition, you are expected to show a commitment to return to Sudan, where you will contribute to the country's socio-economic development using the new skills and knowledge acquired during your stay in the UK. You will also be expected to show an interest in good governance, the media, and the political, diplomatic and commercial interests of Sudan.

How do I apply?

Please submit ONLY the following documents:

  • A curriculum vitae of not more than two A4 pages.
  • Not more than one additional A4 page explaining:
    • which subject you wish to study; and why
    • how it relates to your professional and personal objectives, and
    • how, after returning to Sudan, you would expect to apply the skills and experience gained.
