Britannica Online  
This is the famous British encyclopaedia with extensive online resources.
Oxford Reference Online
A vast online library that includes over 100 Oxford University Press reference books such as the Oxford Dictionary of Idioms, the Oxford Dictionaries of Law, Physics, Engineering and many other subjects, plus the mighty Oxford English Dictionary. It contains over 1.5 million dictionary definitions, facts, figures, people, places, dates and quotations.
Oxford English Dictionary
The Oxford English Dictionary is widely acknowledged to be the ultimate authority on the English language. OED Online provides access to the invaluable 20-volume Second Edition of the Oxford English Dictionary and the 3 volumes of Additions. It includes over 2.5 million quotations from a wide range of sources to illustrate how words have been used over time and at least 1,000 new and revised words each quarter. You can search resources with speed and ease.
