We are managing, in association with Africa Educational Trust, the Expanded Scholarship and Training Scheme, funded by the Department for International Development (DFID). This follows the success of the initial DFID-funded In Country Scholarship Programme (2003-2005), which we also managed.
The scheme aims to strengthen the capacity of human resources for the recovery and rebuilding of Sudan, by enabling beneficiaries to acquire skills and qualifications in key professional areas, and improving the capacity of the participating agencies.
Under the scheme, we manage the funding of international and local NGOs to provide scholarships and training in southern Sudan and the Nuba Mountains, with particular emphasis on widening access to further education and training to women from poor and conflict-affected areas.
