| Using this bibliography | |
|
The bibliography is a written to be read as one work split into conveniently-sized documents
which you, as reader, can move quickly between using the underlined hypertext
links. We have designed it to be easy to read and browse and then, if you
want, to be printed out, or copied from screen.
In addtion, every British Council Library and Resource Centre will have a print copy of the bibliography. No other print copies will be distributed. If you visit the bibliography's front page you will see that it has author and title indexes split into alphabetical groups or available entire as slightly larger files. These larger files are best to use if you are looking for keywords or all the works of a particular author. Just perform a search using the 'find' function on your browser. If you are teaching British Studies we have structured the contents to be more useful to you. The titles of the sections correspond to frequently used topics in British Studies syllabuses. This should make it easier when planning new courses or providing reading lists. If you are stocking a library or resource centre we hope it will give you ideas for structuring information about Britain. If you can't find the book you want There are many bibliographic sources on the web. For all but the most recent titles you could search the British Library's On-line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) selecting Humanities and Social Sciences (1975-) from the Reference Collections. Ordering books through John Smith and Son Ltd
The British Council's library suppliers John Smith and Son of Glasgow have
an on-line search and ordering system. Go to their
home page, select 'search' and
after performing your searches you can choose to proceed with ordering. We should like to thank the bibliographic services of John Smith's who contributed to the making of this bibliography. Help us enrich and update the bibliography by suggesting your own items: whether they are films, web sites, audio-cassettes. Or they could be books - especially the best new books and those classics you think we've missed out. Just go to the form now and fill it in with as much information as you can. We'll do the rest and publish your suggestions in regular updates Note: we will consider requests made by authors and publishers to include their own works or products but preference may be given to items recommended by readers Thanks Thanks are also due to all those who worked or commented on the bibliography in the British Council's Information Services and to Matthew Trump working with the British Council in Slovenia who designed the HTML for this bibliography. |
