The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We have over 22,000 members in our Libraries in Colombo and Kandy, and over 4,000 students in our two Teaching Centres. We provide information on all aspects of the UK, including EducationUK. We have a busy programme of activities and events and we administer exams, projects and outreach activities all around the island.

Post of Assistant Manager Premises Projects (Part Time)

In Sri Lanka, the British Council delivers a wide range of UK qualifications, including School and English language exams, academic and professional qualifications; in total around 75,000 exams a year. As a result this post-holder will play a key role to ensure the British Council is more proactive in delivery and maintaining high quality of its services.

We are looking for energetic team players with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Main areas of responsibility will include:

managing the administrative aspects of premises projects
managing the financial transactions for the projects
coordinating legal, financial and administrative requirements related to projects (leases, contracts, orders etc)
assisting unit managers with the installation of the facilities for the new and temporary premises
assisting Facilities team as required

Qualifications / experience needed:

G.C.E. O/L or equivalent qualification – essential
Relevant professional qualification or equivalent work experience– essential
A proven track record in the field of  Facilities and/or Office Services – desirable

Competencies and skills needed:

Creating shared purpose (supporting others to gain their contributions) – essential
Connecting with others (building relationships and connections to support corporate goals ) – essential
Making it happen (achieving challenging goals and delivering excellent results) – essential
Project and Contract Management – essential
Communication Skills (in written and spoken English) – essential

Financial Planning and Management – desirable

This part-time post based in Colombo is available for Sri Lankan citizens on a three-year fixed-term contract from end May 2012 at a minimum starting salary of Rs.27,879/- per month. If more than 10 candidates meet all the essential criteria, the desirable criteria will be used to shortlist.
