The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. Our purpose is to create international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide. The British Council's business area priorities (strategic business units) are English, Arts, Education and Society.

We have over 24,000 members in our Libraries in Colombo and Kandy, and over 4,000 students in our two Teaching Centres. We provide information on all aspects of the UK, including EducationUK. We have a busy programme of activities and events and we administer exams, projects and outreach activities all around the island.
