If you are 16 years or older you are eligible for this membership. You can become a member by producing an identification or proof of employment or by a deposit.
You can borrow 5 books and 1 periodical (excluding material from the Young Learners Centre) for a period of 30 days.
You will need to fill an application form which is available at the library help desk
Membership by production of identification We will grant membership over the counter on the production of a national identity card, driver's licence, valid passport, letter of introduction from employer or work identity card.
Non-Sri Lankan citizens working in Sri Lanka should produce a letter of introduction from employer or a work identity card.
Membership by deposit If you are unable to produce the above listed identification documents you can obtain membership by payment of a refundable deposit of Rs 3000 in addition to the annual membership fee.
Extending time period of material borrowed You may extend the loan period of materials you borrow only once, on or before the due date, if they are not already reserved. Your requests must be made on or before the due date by e-mail, post or fax, giving the due date, your membership number and the bar code number of the material borrowed (e.g. CB343 55).
Overnight loans You may borrow two multiple-choice question books on medicine or one computer reference book between 1630 and 1730 for overnight use. The items should be returned by 0900 the following day. A fine of Rs 25 will be charged for overdue material per hour starting from 1000. A fine of Rs 50 will be charged for overdue IELTS material per hour starting from 1000.
Lost and damaged material You are responsible for all the material you borrow. You will be requested to pay the replacement cost of lost/damaged material.
MEMBERSHIP CARD You must carry the membership card at all times when you visit the library. Membership is not transferable
RENEWAL OF MEMBERSHIP Membership is renewable within 3 months from the date of expiry. You must produce your current membership card, return any overdue items and settle any pending fines.
TRANSFER OF MEMBERSHIP Transfer of membership between our libraries in Colombo and Kandy can be arranged with prior permission from the Head Lending Services.
RESERVATIONS You may reserve any material already on loan except journals.
PHOTOCOPYING Library material can be photocopied subject to copyright restrictions
VIDEO VIEWING FACILITY Documentary video viewing facility is available at our English Learning Zone.
LIBRARY TOURS Tours of our Libraries can be arranged with the Head Lending Services by prior notice. Special tours are given to institutions. Non members are also accommodated prior to registration.
LOSS OF MATERIAL You will be asked to pay the replacement cost of lost / damaged material.
LOSS OF MEMBERSHIP CARD This must be reported immediately, and you may purchase a replacement for the lost card.
PERSONAL PROPERTY You may leave all personal items at the baggage counter at your own risk. You are only permitted to bring in blank sheets of paper.
CANCELLATION OF MEMBERSHIP If library privileges have been misused we reserve the right to cancel your membership at our discretion.
PAYMENTS All cash transactions close at 1730.
