Expand your teaching repertoire

British Council hosts courses to support teachers of English. All courses/workshops are designed and delivered by highly qualified and experienced British Council teachers. The TKT courses are also useful for teachers in English medium schools.

WHAT IS TKT?

an internationally recognised teaching qualification for teachers of English in primary, secondary or adult teaching contexts.
an affordable test leading to a qualification, available regularly throughout the year
a three module course which increases your teaching knowledge
a modular test leading to a qualification from the University of Cambridge

WHAT CAN TKT DO FOR YOU?

it demonstrates that you have an understanding about teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
it is a stepping stone to higher qualifications in teaching ESOL, such as the CELTA
It helps you to get the job you want
it reassures parents and students that their teacher has a teaching knowledge qualification

WHO IS TKT APPROPRIATE FOR?

people who want to become English teachers
newly qualified or experienced teachers of English who want to update their knowledge
teachers of other subjects who want to teach English
teachers with a competent level of English, equivalent to PET or IELTS level 4.0

a place on this course is reserved for you on payment of the course fee (below). You can do the payments over the Teaching Centre reception counter at the British Council in Colombo or Kandy.

refunds are only possible before your first class
an administration fee will be deducted

Fees include: student folder, ELZ membership, a student discount on full library membership, British Council course certificate on successful completion of the course

Additional costs: course book, your personal stationery, University of Cambridge exam fee for each module

If you are planning on doing the Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT), it is advisable to book your place on this course. You can also do the test without taking the course.
