Session 2 LEXIS
Concepts used in describing aspects of vocabulary and some of the factors which lead to vocabulary errors by learners

Session 1 PHONOLOGY
Concepts used in describing different elements of pronunciation, the phonemic script
Session 2 FUNCTIONS
Concepts of language functions and exponents, and formality and appropriacy of functional language

The ‘four skills’ of English, and the key concepts related to reading and its sub skills
Session 2 WRITING
Key concepts related to writing and its sub skills

Session 1 LISTENING
Differences between written and spoken language, and the key concepts of listening
Session 2 SPEAKING
Key concepts in oral communication, and the balance of accuracy and fluency in speaking practice

Session 1 MOTIVATION
Characteristics of motivated learners, why motivation is important to learning and linking various classroom activities to motivational factors
Session 2 EXPOSURE AND FOCUS ON FORM
Importance of a focus on form, analysing language structures and identifying potential learner difficulties, and designing simple concept questions to check understanding

Session 1 THE ROLE OF ERROR
Distinctions between different types of errors, and the issues involved in error correction
Session 2 DIFFERENCES BETWEEN L1 AND L2 LEARNING
