Whether you are a trained teacher in another discipline, or you have never taught before, you can now qualify to teach English by doing the CELTA course at the British Council Colombo.
The CELTA, or Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, is a passport to teaching and working around the world. Administered by Cambridge University, it is the most widely recognised international qualification for English teachers. With a CELTA in hand you may find yourself working in a summer school, as a Business English teacher, or on pre-sessional university courses. The possibilities are endless.

The course lasts for eight weeks and is held on Sundays and Mondays. The input is given in the form of workshops, designed to be as 'hands on' and practical as possible. The 120-hour-course includes the following: daily input sessions and teaching practice with extensive feedback, assignment preparation, and observation of experienced teachers and their peers.
Candidates are assessed on teaching practice, professional awareness, and written assignments.
The next course runs from 12 October to 15 December 2008. You will need to download both the application and the pre-interview task and submit them by Friday 22 August 2008. Once your application and pre-interview task have been approved, you will be contacted by one of our trainers for an interview. The interviews will be held in early September 2008. Please contact our Course Tutor for further information.
