British Council Sri Lanka
Examinations Refund Policy and Procedure

GENERAL POLICY

This policy applies to all candidates whether individually registered or sponsored by an organisation.

1. A 100% refund or a place on the next scheduled test will be granted if the British Council has to cancel or postpone the test for any reason.
2. If a candidate gives written notice of withdrawal before the final registration date of the exam, as published by the British Council, a full refund of the local fee will be given, less an administrative fee of Rs 2,000/-.
3. If a candidate gives written notice of withdrawal after the final registration date of the exam as published by the British Council, and at least one week before the scheduled date of the exam, a full refund of the local fee will be given, less an administrative fee of Rs 3,000/-.
4. If notice is given less than one full week before the scheduled date of the exam, the fee will be forfeited in its entirety. An exception to this rule is a withdrawal or absence on medical grounds. Candidates able to produce a medical certificate will receive a refund less Rs 3,000/- administrative fee.
5. No refunds will be allowed for GCE practicals. Please refer the refund procedures for Edexcel and Cambridge exams.
6. If the amount to be refunded is less than Rs 1,000/- the local fee will be forfeited.
7. Refund of board fees will depend on regulations issued by the individual board.
8. We will not deduct anything from a board fee refund. If the board refunds a given amount then we will pass this on completely to the candidate. We will only deduct the local fee or an amount from the local fee. For example, if the policy stipulates that we take Rs 2,000 but the local fee is only Rs 1,500 then we only deduct Rs 1,500/-.
9. If the candidate receives a half refund from the board then we refund the half board fee refund, plus our local fee less Rs 2,000/-. If the local fee is less than Rs 2,000/- then we will return the half board fee refund.
10. Refunds will not be offered on physical items, such as past papers or specimen packs.
