WHAT IS IELTS?

IELTS is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is used as the language of communication
IELTS is accepted by British, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and most American education institutions for admissions
IELTS is used by many professional bodies and governments including the British, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian immigration services, the General Medical Council in the UK, and the Australian Medical Council. It is used for recruitment purposes by public and private organisations in many countries


WHAT KIND OF EXAM IS IT?

IELTS covers all four language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking (take a look at the test format)
IELTS is offered in two test formats: Academic is suitable for candidates planning to undertake higher education study; General Training is suitable for candidates planning to undertake non-academic training, or for immigration purposes
candidates are given a score from 1 to 9 which shows their ability in each of the four tests, and an overall score of 1 to 9


HOW DO I REGISTER FOR THE IELTS TEST?

register in person or post your application with a cheque, bank draft or proof of bank transfer.

the present fee is Rs. 16,000/-
bring a valid passport when you register, and also on the day of the test. We do not accept National Identity Cards
bring us two recent passport-size photographs and a copy of your passport
produce copies of your previous Test Report Forms if you have done the test before

In Colombo the written tests are held at Galadari Hotel, Colombo 1 and the speaking tests at the British Council.

In Kandy the written tests are held at Hotel Mahaweli Reach (35, P B A Weerakoon Mawatha, Kandy) and the speaking tests at the British Council.


WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TO CANCEL OR POSTPONE THE TEST DATE I HAVE BOOKED?

if you notify us more than five weeks before your test date, you will get a full refund minus an administrative charge of Rs.2,000/-
if you notify us less than five weeks before your test date you will forfeit the whole test fee, except in certain exceptional cases.


WHEN WILL I GET MY RESULTS?

results are available on the 13th day following the written test (i.e. a Friday if it was a Saturday exam). You can check your result online by going to http://ielts-results.britishcouncil.org. We will send your Test Report Form to you by registered post.
