Intimate Conversations for Viola and Piano
featuring Ashan Pillai (viola) and Eshantha Peiris (piano)
British Council in celebration of its 60th year in Sri Lanka is proud to present this classical music evening featuring the critically acclaimed Sri Lankan-born British violist Ashan Pillai described as a “brilliant professional”, with Sri Lanka’s renowned pianist Eshantha Peiris.

   Ashan Pillai, made his first ever appearance in Sri Lanka in 1998 in the presence of HRH Prince Charles to mark the 50th Anniversary of Independence as soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra. Winner of many international prizes at various competitions which includes Tertis International Competition (1994) Rome International Competition (1995), the Royal Overseas League Competition (1995), made his London recital debut as a winner of the Park Lañe Group Series in 1997 and his New York debut at Carnegie Hall, Weill Hall, as a winner of the Artists International Series in the same year.    Eshantha Peiris earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Performance and Composition at New York University and served as an adjunct piano instructor and as assistant conductor of the NYU orchestra. Since his return to Sri Lanka, Eshantha has been actively involved in the local music scene, playing keyboards in the fusion-jazz band 'Thriloka' is also an associate conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka. He is the director of the recently founded 'Aumkar School of Multicultural Arts'.
