What we do in our teaching centre

The English language is very much in demand in today's Sri Lanka. The British Council is at the forefront of English language teaching and learning, with two busy teaching centres and a wide-ranging involvement in English language projects throughout the island.

  • our Colombo Teaching Centre is one of the fastest-growing in the network with well over 3000 students, over 2000 of whom are Young Learners. We also have a thriving centre in Kandy.

  • we administer a wide range of English language examinations, including IELTS, the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) main suite examinations and the Cambridge Young Learner Tests (CYLT).

  • our libraries in Colombo and Kandy provide the latest in materials and information to teachers and learners of English.
