Post of Education UK Officer

The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. Our purpose is to build mutually-beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries and increase appreciation of the UK’s creative ideas and achievements. We operate in 110 countries and territories worldwide.

The Education UK unit of the British Council promotes UK education in Sri Lanka & the Maldives and stages education promotional events, working closely with local schools & institutions, recruiting agents, the UK education sector and the British High Commission. We also provide information, counselling and consultancy to Sri Lankan and Maldivian students, and encourage links between schools, universities and other institutions in the UK and Sri Lanka.

We are looking for an energetic team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Main areas of responsibility will include

Providing information and services to customers/staff/partners both face to face or through the call centre.
Providing advice and counselling services on study in the UK.
Collecting and maintaining records of all cash transactions at Education Services.
Assisting in the work relating to export promotional activities by UK institutions: the education exhibitions in Sri Lanka & Maldives, promotional visits in Sri Lanka.
Leading in conducting customer evaluation surveys.
Providing assistance with outreach activities.


Qualifications needed

G.C.E. O/L with a distinction in English language or equivalent  – essential
G.C.E. A/L or equivalent – desirable


Behavioural competencies needed

Team working (including co-operatively working with different groups ) – essential
Achievement (including prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines) – essential


Generic skills needed

Marketing & Customer Service (including identifying underlying needs of the customer and delivery of high quality services) – essential
Communication Skills in written and spoken English – essential
Computing Skills – desirable


Other Skills needed

Finance Skills – desirable

This full-time post is available based in Colombo on a one-year contract from August 2008 at a minimum starting salary of Rs.23,383/- per month. Examinations Services delivers a wide range of UK exams including IELTS, GCEs, English Language exams, University and Professional exams.
