The film and television industry in the UK is supported by a range of public-sponsored organisations as well as by various tax incentives and co-production schemes. Government backing is provided at ministerial level by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
BRITISH ACADEMY OF FILM AND TELEVISION ARTS (BAFTA)
A membership organisation that aims to advance the art and technique of film and television. Events include screenings of recent and pre-release films, seminars and platform interviews with established filmmakers.
BRITISH FILM COMMISSION
The international arm of the UK Film Council (see listing below). Promotes the UK as an international film and television production centre, and encourages the use of UK locations, facilities and production personnel by overseas producers.
BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE

The purpose of the BFI is to develop film culture in the UK by improving access to, and education about, the moving image. Its activities include running the National Film Theatre and the regional film theatres in the UK, the National Film and Television Archive and the London Film Festival. It has an extensive publishing operation and runs a film library and a telephone enquiry service.

NORTHERN IRELAND FILM & TELEVISION COMMISSION

The NIFTC's mission is to accelerate the development of a dynamic and sustainable film and television industry in Northern Ireland by integrating industrial, educational and cultural policies and actions. It provides film and television producers from anywhere in the world with all the assistance and information they may need when considering filming in Northern Ireland. It offers producers access to UK sources of production finance, whether for feature films or for television drama. It also offers producers possibilities for creative collaboration with the film industry in the Republic of Ireland.

SCOTTISH SCREEN

Responsible for developing all aspects of the screen industry in Scotland through script and company development, short film production, distribution of National Lottery film production finance, training and education, exhibition funding, Film Commission location support and the Scottish Screen Archive.

The Film Council was set up to work with the public and private sector to make film an essential part of the UK's creative economy and to create the environment for a sustainable and vibrant film culture.
