Premier Skills successfully launched its first Afghanistan course in Dubai from 30 June to 6 July 2013.
Twenty football coaches from Afghanistan took part in the Phase 1 course, which was led by Johnnie Garside, a senior coach at Everton in the Community with extensive experience in delivering Premier Skills training around the world. Johnnie’s co-coach on the course was Mark Bright, the former Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday player, who is now a UEFA qualified coach working at Crystal Palace.
The majority of the coaches from Afghanistan who participated in the training are connected to clubs involved in the Afghan Premier League, and two were female coaches who also represent the Afghanistan national women’s team.
The course in Dubai was jointly organised by the British Council, Premier League, the Afghanistan Football Federation and Afghan Premier League with support from the UK Government and local partners, including Moby Group.
The hugely successful Premier Skills initiative is a partnership between the Premier League and the British Council which uses football as a tool to engage with and develop the skills of young people and tackle a variety of social issues in the community, such as health, disability, gender, inclusion and education
Premier Skills has already delivered tremendous impact in 21 countries across Asia, Africa and the Americas.
