Czech Wales Crowd
Fan Ambassadors

We work closely with fans from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland as they travel with their national and domestic teams, increasing awareness and tolerance of different cultures and promoting a different image than that often portrayed in the media. A few of the activities that we have supported include

Raising the flag
Fan visits
Fan football friendlys
Football cafes and lectures

These activities are largely fan led with the British Council supporting the action that happens around games.

If you are interested in this work, want to participate or feel you have more to offer around international football events please contact us and we can help put you in touch with the relevant people either in the UK or overseas.

Raising the flag -

Czech Republic vs Wales

At this match the British Council cooperated with 'ProFotbalFans' a group of Czech football fans who helped lay out laminated cards with both the Czech and Welsh flags before the start of the game. Just before the kick off, the crowd raised the cards to promote Welsh and Czech relations and to encourage a friendly atmosphere in the stadium.

This event was televised nationally in the Czech Republic and in Wales and was a massive success.

Fan Visits

When travelling abroad we have worked with fan groups to ensure that they are not simply there for the football but engage in the local culture and community. Our programmes linked with official fan groups include trips to schools, hospitals and local areas of historical or cultural interest. The focus is on sharing stories, cultural differences and occassionally touches on football!

Fan Football Friendlys

Exactly as it says on the tin. Many of the fans who travel play in games around the world in fan friendly games. The England fans have been unbeaten over the recent games!!

Football cafes and lectures

Both media and national interest increases around football games. We capitalise on this by running lectures, screenings or debates on issues that football touches upon. These have been successfully conducted in South Africa and run around major tournaments including Portugal 2004 and Germany 2006.

if you are interested in taking part in these events or want to learn more please contact us.
