We offer high quality English courses for children, teenagers and adults in modern, well equipped classrooms. Our teachers are experienced and well-qualified. As well as general English courses, you can choose from Cambridge English exam preparation courses, business English and a variety of skills courses.
We want you to be motivated by and enjoy our classes and we believe that language learning is more effective when: students interact and participate actively in English; students enjoy classes; classes encourage independent learning and student autonomy; students get involved and strive to progress both in the classroom and beyond.
English courses for young learners
The British Council’s Bilbao language centre offers a wide range of classes for young learners in two age groups:
- younger learners from 6 to 17
- young adults between 17 and 22
There are courses for all levels, designed so that students can progress from beginner right up to Cambridge Proficiency level. At some levels you can prepare for a Cambridge Exam, such as First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency. All classes feature the British Council’s comprehensive learning support including learner support groups. Students can come to class once or twice a week and we have a variety of timetables to fit in with their lives – and yours!
English courses for adults
English courses at our Bilbao teaching centre cover all abilities, from beginner to advanced. At some levels you can prepare for a Cambridge Exam, such as First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency. We offer specialised courses in communications skills and business English as well.
All classes feature the British Council’s comprehensive learning support. Our varied timetables mean you can choose to come to class for the number of hours and days that best suits you.
Summer Courses
We have a wide range of courses during the summer months. In June and July you can take one of our 80-hour courses, a great opportunity to complete a full level in one month.
If you are planning to take the Cambridge English First or Cambridge English Advanced there are exams in July and in October and we have preparation courses for these. In July there are 50 and 80 hour courses whilst in October there are express courses of 25-hours.
We also have conversation courses for adults in September and our short skills courses for 10-17 year olds and Young Adults (17-22 yrs) in June and September.
Which course is right for you?
To make sure your course is at the right level for you, you’ll need to take a ‘level test’, which assesses your spoken and written English. The test takes an hour at most. You have to do the test if:
- you’ve not studied with us before or
- you haven’t done any study for at least six months
If you have passed the Cambridge First (FCE), Advanced (CAE) or Proficiency (CPE) in the last year, you don't need to take the level test, but please bring your certificate when you come to register.
