OPENCities Faces Exhibition

After Touring Düsseldorf, Cardiff and Belfast, OPENCities Faces arrives in Bilbao on the 3 December, on display at the Zubiarte Shopping Centre. Eight photographers resident in eight European cities have worked on showcasing the existing relationship between diversity and cities. In the same way that these new residents shape and adapt themselves to their new city, their new city adapts into its new reality, changing its human, social and economic profile. In addition to the photography exhibition, The British Council will organize guided tours for secondary schools, giving students the opportunity to debate about diversity, citizenship and other related themes, participate in radio workshops and a soundtrack music competition to select one piece of music that represents diversity in Bilbao. If you are a teacher and would like your class to receive a guided tour or would like to enter the soundtrack competition please visit our Web: www.opencities.eu or contact aneta.quraishy@britishcouncil.es

OPENCities

OPENCities delivers a unique tool that measures how open cities are to diverse populations and brings insights into how these populations can contribute to city success. Cities are offered a new marketing category- OPENCities- that can be used to promote their openness and raise their international profile.
We aim to engage over 100 cities and develop the project into a kite mark for cities worldwide.
Current events:
In March we will be holding a couple of OPENCities Round Table discussions. What is Our Shared Europe?

The Our Shared Europe project is the British Council’s response to one of the major cultural challenges facing our continent today – the growing mutual mistrust between Muslim communities and wider European society. Our Shared Europe seeks to find common ground, and build shared values, perspectives and behaviours that are based on mutual respect and trust. In particular, it is about how to acknowledge the contribution of Islamic communities and cultures – both in the past but also in the present – to the shaping of contemporary European civilisation and society. This means recognising the rich and diverse roots of our culture and society and using this recognition to build a more inclusive view of the continent that we all share.
