LITERACY IN THE CURRICULUM
A training course for state teachers at primary level

This course will focus on a holistic approach to the teaching of reading and writing for children (age 4-8) in state school bilingual projects. Texts used will be authentic children's books, fiction and non-fiction, and elements such as the teaching of phonics, spelling, sentence structure, grammar and punctuation will be included as part of the whole process.

  • 24 hours of seminars (8 Tuesday sessions);

IDEAS FOR SECONDARY TEACHERS OF ENGLISH
Specially prepared with teenage students in mind this course will stimulate your existing ways of teaching and provoke new ideas for the secondary English classroom

Teenagers are challenging, but rewarding age group to teach. On this course we will investigate how to encourage and support students to stimulate the learning process.
We will look at adapting EFL techniques e.g. working in paits and small groups, role plays etc, to deal with the realities of the secondary classroom, as well as exploiting and supplementing course materials. Each session will provide you with ideas that you can use immediately in your classes.

  • Encouraging learner independence and autonomy
  • Using authentic materials in the classroom - at all levels
  • Recycling and working with vocabulary
  • Increasing communicativeness and engaging students in the classroom
  • Integrating pronunciation and connected speech
  • Revitalising reading and writing in the classroom

This course will be taught in a workshop style, with participants sahring their classroom experiences and working together in pairs, small groups and individually.
