Madrid: Success for all started off with study visits in 2005 to London and Birmingham. A Madrid delegation, including local authority representatives from Madrid Regional Government as well as Heads from 6 Madrid schools spent a week sharing and learning about good practice procedures for managing culturally diverse schools. All classes contain pupils with a wide range of abilities, attitudes, interests, cultural backgrounds and learning needs and this is especially true of schools in Madrid given recent migration trends. More than ever everyone involved in Education recognised the need for developing strategies and policies to successfully deliver high quality Education to all students. |

The schools involved in this local British Council project have developed and put into place successful strategies to promote academic success amongst all pupils and in particular amongst pupils from migrant communities. These include initiatives to encourage parental involvement amongst new arrivals, induction plans, curriculum development to better reflect the cultural diversity in schools and young leader training. |

 |
To round off the project the Head teachers and Project Coordinators in all of the schools involved designed a teacher training course, with corresponding MEC credits, through which they shared all their successful strategies and best practice with colleagues in schools throughout Madrid. |
