CHEEK BY JOWL: TROILUS AND CRESSIDA
Barcelona, Almagro, Madrid
July

At the height of the war between the Greeks and the Trojans, Prince Troilus, son of King Priam of Troy, falls head over heels in love with Cressida, the daughter of a Greek deserter. Soon, though, the lovers are separated, when Cressida is returned to the Greek camp in an exchange of prisoners. This is a story that has inspired countless versions in western literature. Shakespeare's version is is at once hilarious, passionate, and at times terrifying.

Troilus and Cressida is Cheek by Jowl’s most ambitious production to date. Stage design, music and lighting are harnessed to create a powerful show featuring spectacular combat scenes. The enormous attention paid to the actors’ craft and movements is a trademark of Cheek by Jowl, formed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod in 1981. The company has since toured to more than 200 cities in 40 different countries. This production in Spain has special relevance as Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod have just been awarded the 8th Corral de Comedias prize by the Almagro Festival.

The play is in English with surtitles in Spanish
