British Council BritLit workshop Cámara de Comercio 27 September 10h45 – 19h30
The British Council presents a BritLit workshop as part of the Guardian Hay Festival Segovia. The BritLit Project develops language learning materials from contemporary British literature sources. Using short stories and poetry as a starting point, the materials explore cultural, literary and linguistic aspects of the texts. The project works mainly with students of secondary school age, though some material for younger children has been included. An important part of BritLit is introducing the authors and poets the students have studied to the schools through a programme of author visits and workshops.
This workshop takes place at the wonderful Chamber of Commerce building in Segovia and is aimed at students of the Master’s in English Teaching of the Universidad de Alcalá and primary and secondary school teachers from the Ministry of Education and British Council’s Bilingual Project in Madrid and Castilla y León. In the morning session the participants will receive guidance on how best to exploit the practical mini-kits designed for classroom use around the works of the authors Owen Sheers, Gillian Clarke and Michael Morpurgo. In the afternoon the teachers will have the opportunity to exchange experiences with these writers regarding the teaching of English through literature and to listen to them read from the work.
Attendance at the workshop is by invitation only.
