Under a full moon and as part of the Noche en Blanco programme, the British Council presents Blank Slate, an eclectic and edgy collection of short films by new multi-ethnic film makers from across the UK produced by B3 Media in partnership with the UK Film Council and the Arts Council of England.
The British Council’s goal in this project is to highlight new film making talent at international level and to create links between an underrepresented group of filmmakers and the film industry. The films have been screened in cities worldwide including Venice, Chicago, Edinburgh, L.A., Amsterdam, Cairo, Karachi, Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto and London.
Blank Slate reveals that far from being a government product, multiculturalism is simply real life for much, if not most, of Britain. Though written and directed by filmmakers from a dizzying array of ethnic and religious backgrounds, the majority of these works explore mortality. Death hovers over these shorts like condensation over Hyde Park.
The Noche en Blanco is part of the Noches Blancas Europa network which includes Paris, Rome, Brussels, Madrid, Riga and Bucharest as well as La Valleta, Malta, added recently. On the same night every year, each city presents its own all night cultural programme which has become a contemporary artistic reference for its citizens with the added bonus of being entirely free.
Blank Slate will be shown continuously from 22h00 to 02h00. The public can arrive and leave at any time and there is no need to book in advance.
Popcorn will be served.
