The aims of the course were to examine and explore the issues involved in encouraging Roma families to support their children’s learning, with specific focus on:

| Overcoming the barriers to secondary education through multi-agency approaches |
| Securing of education for existing cohorts of secondary non-attenders |
| The recruitment and training of Roma to work in education |
| The empowerment of Roma communities to ensure their participation in decision making in the educational sphere |

| The opportunity to visit Appleby New Fair, the largest Gypsy and Traveller gathering in England |
