Volunteering

Young man concentratigEuropean Voluntary Service (EVS) invites organisations like yours to get involved by either sending or hosting young volunteers. (Informal groups cannot apply.)

Young volunteers get to:

  • live in a different European country

  • learn new skills

  • experience a new culture

  • develop and grow as individuals.

Participants will also qualify for a Youthpass certificate.

Your youth organisation can:

  • add a European and international flavour to its work

  • partner with like-minded international organisations

  • present your young people with a fresh opportunity

  • add an intercultural dimension to your organisation and its community.

Who

Young people aged between 18 and 30 who are keen to volunteer for up to 12 months overseas.

Non-profit organisations in an eligible country who hope to send or host young volunteers.

How

Organisations need to complete and submit an Expression of Interest form (doc 221.5 KB) – they can do this at any time.

Step 1: Youth groups and young people need to find a sending organisation that is recruiting volunteers.

Step 2: Then find a project that looks interesting.

How long?

An EVS placement involves full-time volunteering (35 hours per week) for between two to 12 months. Young people with fewer opportunities can be placed for shorter periods (two weeks to two months).

Don’t apply if...

... you are looking for paid work or think that it might be a ‘jolly’ or a study or training trip.

Need to know

Make sure that you refer to ‘Action 2’ in the Programme guide (PDF 1.03MB).

Extra funds are available to support volunteers with additional support needs.

The Programme guide can also tell you more about how the funding works and what flexibility exists for organisations working young people that need extra support.
