Kick It Out, Kick Racism Out

Young participants hold their project flagThe organisation behind this project, V2020 Leadership Initiative, uses sport and exercise to strengthen communities and engage hard to reach young people.

Twenty five young people who took part in our KIO project. Its goal was to explore and harness the unique power of sport to break down the boundaries and barriers that commonly lead to conflict between young people from different racial, cultural and religious backgrounds.

It involved taking young participants from different communities and giving them the chance to see the bridge-building power of sport at first hand, as they implemented an informal programme of sports-based learning and then watched it bringing about positive changes among their peers and their communities.

Importantly, the project offered those who took part an important alternative to crime and gang-related activities – as well as plenty of amazing opportunities to develop new skills, make new lifestyle choices, and gain the invaluable experience of taking part in organised and team-based activities.
