British Council Slovenia
2012 London Olympic Games

In partnership with the Slovenian debating organisation Za in Proti (ZIP), zavod za kulturo dialoga we organise a series of debates to stimulate active and intelligent debate around the three topics that focus on our current activities:

Intercultural Dialogue
Climate Change and
The Creative Economy

For the debates we have chosen a number of controversial motions and have engaged experienced Slovenian debating teams to argue for or against them, in English, using the British Parliamentary debating format. We also encourage the audience to ask questions or raise points of information after the formal debate, and a vote for or against the motions will be recorded.

The debates will take place in a relaxed café environment in central Ljubljana, at which the British Council will provide drinks and snacks. Numbers will be limited and we would like to attract a well-informed and interested audience.

Dates and motions of the debates:

11 May 2009 Adapting our lifestyles to climate change is more important than trying to prevent it

The debates will take place betwen 18.00 and 20.00.

If you would like to attend one or more of these debates please download and complete the attached application form and send it to Tina Skocaj. She will confirm your place on a first come first served basis and ask you to re-confirm your attendance a few days before the debate. In the meantime check out what FAO has to say about adapting to climate change.
