KET tests the most basic communication needs in everyday situations and is suitable for students aged thirteen and over and adults. It is an elementary level exam, set at language level A2 of the Council of Europe and can be achieved after approximately 200 hours of learning. It is about half-way to PET.

This exam tests language ability after about 380 hours of study and is mostly taken in Slovenia by primary and secondary school students who are two thirds on their way to FCE. It also provides good exam practice for future exams, such as the Matura. PET is an intermediate level exam, set at language level B1 of the Council of Europe.

In Slovenia the FCE exam is generally recognised by companies and institutions as providing sufficient proof of language competence for the work place (junior to middle management administrative sector). Set at Council of Europe language level B2, this exam tests competence in English at an Independent User level and is often taken after 500 – 600 hours of learning. FCE is also the most widely taken exam worldwide and has the most widespread recognition.

The CAE exam offers a language qualification for those who need to use English frequently in their jobs. In Slovenia it is mostly taken by university students, people in business and professional sectors. It is recognised by the majority of UK universities and higher education institutions as proof of sufficient ability to study in English. CAE is an advanced exam, set at language level C1 of the Council of Europe.

CPE is a very advanced level exam approaching a standard of English similar to that of an educated native speaker. As such it fulfils entry requirements for university study in English language and is recognised by UK universities, many universities in other English-speaking countries and by other professional bodies world-wide. It is set at language level C2 of the Council of Europe
