'After much research, I confidently took up a Bachelor of Science (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management degree with University of Sunderland through MDIS in Singapore. To my delight, I, as with other students, had a close working relationship with the university professors in the UK and a high level of support was extended to us by the school when we required additional learning materials. Access to library resources was also readily available through the university’s website though we are two continents apart.

Professors from University of Sunderland flew down specially to meet up with us (both local students and lecturers) for discussions on our final projects and dissertations, ensured that we were right on track and also gave us insights into the requirements to obtain good grades.

I’m indeed glad to be here. Singapore, with its excellent public facilities, has also provided me unlimited access to the use of materials available at the local national library. Students from all over the world choose this ideal city, which in turn gives all of us an excellent opportunity to interact with and learn from one another.

I have no regrets in pursuing a UK education in my home country. It has provided me the opportunity of obtaining quality education affordably without having to adjust to a different environment. Moreover, I was able to study and work on a full-time basis concurrently. Ultimately, the UK degree which I achieved after the completion of my studies landed me a well-paid job. It was indeed well worth it!'

Applying theories to work

'Before I embarked on this course, I seriously contemplated whether to further my education as I considered myself to have made quite an achievement in my career.

With the Singapore government placing much emphasis on life-long learning and the fact that competition in industry is undoubtedly strong, it’s quite impossible to stay competitive without upgrading myself.  With a desire to complete a degree in a short period of time, coupled with the amount of work that I am committed to, I knew I had to stay in Singapore to pursue my dreams.

Distance learning is nothing else but the right choice to achieve my UK degree in the marketing field.  Without any worry of being in a totally strange environment, I’m able to focus on achieving my goal. As I studied and worked at the same time, it allowed me to apply theories I had learnt into real life situations and this greatly raised my capabilities to a higher level.

The UK degree programme armed me with adequate knowledge and enabled me to manage my time better to juggle between multiple assignments and projects at work.

It’s been a year since I graduated and guess what? I’m seriously considering pursuing my Masters now in a TNE programme!'
