SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF TIONG BAHRU AS INSPIRATION FOR UK-SINGAPORE WRITING WORKSHOP
28 November 2008 – The sights and sounds of Tiong Bahru will provide the backdrop for some 15 talented Singapore students for a writing workshop jointly organised by the British Council, Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Arvon Foundation, one of the UK’s leading creative course providers. The five-day workshop kicks off on 1 December at the Tiong Bahru Community Centre.

BRITISH COUNCIL WINS PRAISE FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND DIVERSITY PRACTICES
13 November 2008 –
The British Council hosted a visit by Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed (Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mayor of the North East district) today. Mr Zainul praised us for being a supportive employer to Ali Daud, who is visually-impaired.

MORE THAN 2,000 US ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS NOW ACCEPT IELTS
LOS ANGELES, 22 October 2008
– The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) today announced that more than 2,000 U.S. academic faculties, colleges and universities accept its English language proficiency test.

SINGAPOREAN ENCOUNTERS IN THE UK
2 October 2008
– Two of Singapore’s most exciting young filmmakers will be competing at the UK’s leading short film festival this year, while the director of the Singapore Film Commission, Mr Kenneth Tan, will be joining one of the festival’s main juries, as a mark of the growing links between the Singapore and UK film industries.

SINGAPOREAN STUDENTS WIN MAJOR BRITISH COUNCIL HONOURS
24 April 2008 – A trio of Singaporean students has scooped top prizes in the UK’s biggest competition designed to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of international students. Xin Hui Supanee Chan, Stacey Go and Richard Ho were finalists in the British Council’s International Student Awards 2008, thanks to their inspirational stories of life as students in the UK.

UK MINISTER AFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SINGAPORE WITH SUBSTANTIAL FUNDING FOR STUDENT MOBILITY AND COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH

– The UK Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, Mr Bill Rammell, today announced that 13 bids for funding under the Prime Minister’s Initiative for International Education (PMI) have been successful.

BRITISH COUNCIL RELEASES RESEARCH FINDINGS ON EAST ASIAN STUDENT MOBILITY AT STRATEGIC DIALOGUE IN BANGKOK
