Building mutually beneficial relationships worldwide

The British Council connects people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK and builds lasting relationships between the UK and other countries.

WHAT WE DO IN SIERRA LEONE

In Sierra Leone we aim to increase international recognition of the range and quality of learning opportunities from the UK. Through our knowledge and learning approach we have integrated exams, learning, information, events and professional development to offer you a service that provides UK expertise, whatever your needs.

We administer exams and work with examination boards, educational institutions and professional bodies to market and provide access to UK education products. Through our partnership with the Department for International Development, we manage a programme of Higher Education Links and School Links.

Our partnerships in government and civil society help us to increase awareness and appreciation of the UK’s democratic values and processes among young people, professionals and leaders. This work involves initiatives and projects on human rights, access to justice, freedom of information, civic education and leadership development.

We also develop and support networks of creative innovators in music, dance, design and literature in Sierra Leone.  Through these networks we can create long-term relationships with UK counterparts to create awareness of the UK’s creativity and cultural diversity.

We mange the British Chevening Scholarship scheme. Application forms can be obtained from British Council Reception Desk at Tower Hill, Freetown. Closing date for receipt of applications for  the 2006/2007awards is 6 October, 2006.
