Forging links between institutions
The Higher Education Links (HEL) scheme currently manages more than 100 academic links between higher education institutions in the UK and 47 countries.

What is the Scheme About?
The ultimate objective of the HEL scheme is a reduction of poverty and suffering. This is achieved through an application of knowledge and skills gained through collaborative research work that is based on the needs of the poor. The scheme aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the countries in which it operates by enhancing the research and training capacity of their higher education institutions. It is expected that most links will be supported for six years, providing there has been significant progress towards achievement of outputs during the first three years of funding.

There are currently three higher education links between Sierra Leonean institutions and their UK counterparts.
