POLICE AND DIVERSITY

‘Police and Diversity’ is a British Council project funded by the British embassy in Serbia designed to support the Ministry of Interior (MoI) to structure and pilot new policies for ethnic and socially vulnerable groups.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the participation of ethnic minorities in the police school/force, to address the specific needs of diverse groups through the police educational system, and support senior MoI management in the development of the framework for an integrative approach to minority issues.

The project supports the MoI initiative for greater inclusion and participation of minorities and greater transparency/trust building initiatives of the police force.

Media Campaign
Together with the Marketing Team of the Basic Police Training Centre, we have developed a promotional campaign of the recruitment process for the second generation of students in the Centre among candidates from the minority communities.

As part of the promotional campaign, the following materials were developed: leaflets, posters, and newspaper and radio ads.

All materials were localised and published in 10 languages that are spoken in Serbia: Albanian, Hungarian, Romanian, Roma, Ruthenian, Slovak, Bulgarian, Serbian – both Cyrillic and Roman alphabet, and Croatian. So far, more than 120,000 copies of the promotional materials have been distributed across Serbia. Ads were published in 17 minority newspapers and broadcasted in 23 minority radio stations across Serbia.

Development of the Preparotory Course
British Council and Basic Police Training Centre are organising a series of meetings in multi-ethnic communities around Serbia with the aim to introduce the system and content of the qualification exam to candidates who applied for the course in the Centre. So far, meetings have taken place in the following locations: Bujanovac, Presevo, Novi Pazar, Kikinda, Subotica, Sombor, Surdulica and Bosilegrad.

More than 500 candidates were offered the opportunity to continue with the preparatory classes (Serbian language, general culture test and IQ test) during 30 days period in order to get better prepared for the qualification exam.
