British Council and Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade introduced a new elective MA course ‘Access to all’ in September 2008. In 2009 the University of Belgrade awarded the course with the Annual Award for the Best Students Professional Research Programme.
This project went international in September 2009 when the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina) joined this initiative by introducing 'Access to All' curriculum in their architecture programmes.
The course curriculum covers the following topics:
architectural barriers/introduction to elements |
accessibility in public spaces |
accessibility of existing buildings |
accessibility of new buildings |
design in elements |
legal acts and normative implementation |
The curriculum of the elective subject was created by teachers of the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade following study visits to a number of UK institutions. Another study visit (this time with students from both Belgrade and Banja Luka) will happen in March 2010.
As part of this course students prepared an exhibition of their work in March 2009. The second generation of 'Access to All' students will present their ideas in an exhibition opening on 1 March.
