Aleksandra Kovač
Biography

Aleksandra Kovač is a singer, composer, arranger and producer.
She first started to compose, play keyboards and perform her music at the age of 15. At that time, Aleksandra and her sister, Kristina, formed a duo named K2 and signed their first contract with London management company – Mismanagement – whose clients are also Supertramp, Chris De Burgh and Rod Stewart. Shortly after that, the sisters went to London for their first tour and performed as an opening band for Labi Sifre. They also performed at many famous London clubs, such as “Mean Fiddler”, “The Orange”, and “Tea Rooms De Artistes”.

In 1993, Hot chocolate singer, Errol Brown, started his tour in England and Scotland and decided to engage Aleksandra and Kristina as opening band and back vocals after hearing them in the “Mean Fiddler” club. After this tour, Aleksandra started a cooperation with a young team of Manchester producers, called ’’New Underground’’, with whom she created a mixture of pop and r’n’b music. Thanks to this project, K2 got positive reviews from record labels Sony 2, Polydor and Warner Bros.

In the next five years, Aleksandra and Kristina worked with many important names in the world music industry such as Derek Bramble, composer and producer who worked with Whitney Houston and Nona Gaye, then composing duo Rod Argent and Peter Van Hook, composers and producers for Genesis and Tanita Tikaram.

When in 1995 K2’s contract with Mismanagement expired, the girls came back to Belgrade and filled with positive energy and creativity they composed, arranged, produced and performed their first album. The album was sold out in 70 000 copies and reached number one spot in all music charts. Aleksandra and Kristina successfully promoted this album all over the country and by the end of 1996, released a second one, named ‘’Little bit of Soul’’. At that time, in Yugoslavia, these albums represented something new, original and fresh and Aleksandra became known as the first true soul and funk singer in the region.

A year later, Aleksandra and Kristina left for Madrid, Spain, after being invited by the EMI company, where they signed for this label. After successful promotion of their album and a mini tour in Spain, K2 came back to Belgrade and the group decided to split.
Aleksandra went on with her carrier, only this time not only as composer and performer but also as arranger and producer. She met talented and perspective producer and musician Roman Goršek, member of the rock band ‘’Playboy’, and, together with him, formed a team of producers, which successfully worked for the next nine years.

Shortly after, Aleksandra was invited to work with many artists from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some of the artists, for whom Roman and Aleksandra arranged and produced, were Nina Badrić, Ivana Kindl, Žak Hudek, Deen, Severina, Goran Karan, Boris Novković, Vesna Pisarović, Sandi Cenov and others.

In 2001, Aleksandra and Roman started work on their single ’’You & Me’’ which they alone produced and released. It contained four of Aleksandra’s soulful and r’nb compositions which talked about love and life through a mixture of funk, soul and two step. That same year, they received an invitation from the United States, from some of the most influential  managers such as W Management and Philip Kovač, to come and present their work and music. They left for Los Angeles, where they worked with John Mash, a leading entertainment lawyer in the U.S.A.

Today, Aleksandra has signed publishing contracts with labels such as Air Chrysalis Scandinavia, EMI Spain, Croatia Records and Menart, while she is a member of Hrvatsko Društvo Skladatelja and HUZIP (Croatian organisations for protection of author rights), in Croatia and STIM  (Swedish music information centre), in Sweden.

Aleksandra has composed music for several theatre plays, including play ’’Bura’’ directed by Jug Radivojevic that brought Roman and herself Best Music Award, on prestige theatre festival ’’Joakim Vujić’’, in 2005.

Aleksandra and Roman, also, composed music for hit TV show called ’’Lisice’’, as well as music for many other TV shows and commercials. Some of them are for Telenor, Grete and Banini.

She also created music for a numebr of children’s plays such as Captain John Piplfox (’’Duško Radović’’ theatre), Naked King (’’Boško Buha’’ theatre), Dragon and the King’s Son (’’Pinokio’)’ and Two Kingdoms (’’Bajka’’ theatre, Niš).

In April 2006, Aleksandra released her first solo album named ‘’Honey and Milk’’, which quickly became the best sold album of the year, singling out songs ‘’Ti’’, ‘’C’mon Boy’’ and ‘’Nemoj ovako’’. In November of the same year, Aleksandra won the MTV Award for the Best Adriatic Act at the European Music Awards in Copenhagen.

In the autumn of 2007, she started cooperation with the VIP Mobile company, for which she, together with Roman, composed and produced the corporation’s song ‘Tvoje reči vrede više’’. In October, Aleksandra has started her VIP Tour of the larger cities in Serbia (Niš, Subotica, Belgrade and Novi Sad) with her 13 member international band.
