My Architecture
Jelena Atanackovic Jelicic

“Serbia: My Architecture“ is a project tackling sustainable development issues in the built environment. Led  by Dr Jelena Atanacković Jeličić, the project will be developed in three phases:  it will start with two workshops on different locations (Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad and Faculty of architecture in Skopje), followed by a design and production of the “Box” object, and completed by a public presentation of results and discussion. Two teams working on the project will consist of 5-8 students at Master 1 and Master 2 levels.

The idea of the project is to design the final product - the “Box” ("Chinese box" type with openings and drawers), with the aim to connect synthetic, artistic, symbolic and commercial aspects of sustainable development. The object itself will be produced in bio-degradable materials, preferably paper and other organic materials and products. Each team will design one box.

The “Box” will promote sustainable development in all of its possible meanings and levels, and some of them are:

  • Psychological level - sustainable design of personality;
    The box will represent an idea of the "chosen reality" – with opening or removing of each small box, consisting of part of the bigger object structure, user opens her/his own "window" defined by the atmosphere and characteristics based only on parameters chosen. This principle Is based on the Occam's razor: “entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity" or "all things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the right one";
  • Cultural level -the box will represent and promote an atmosphere of each culture involved in the project through picture, aroma, scent, etc. The box is a micro-world of each of the national cultures;
  • Architectural (sustainable design) level - the form of the box and its content will be juxtaposed: the envelope will represent a technological skin, hiding inner complexity;
  • Technological level - The production of the box will be followed by a production of the web-site, as a symbol of technological development that is environmentally non-aggressive.
