Finding Home: a film about learning English at the Refugee Council

On the evening of June 21 2011 at the British Council in London, an audience of around 100 people attended the premiere of a new documentary film, entitled Finding Home, produced by The British Council, working in collaboration with The Refugee Council.

The film explores the opportunities and challenges experienced by refugees newly arrived in the UK and engages with the need for refugees to develop their written and spoken English as soon as they arrive here.

Critically, Finding Home makes the connection between developing confidence with written and spoken English and the enrichment of refugees' personal lives.

Engaging the viewer with the facts at hand regarding ESOL provision, Finding Home also brings to light the personal stories of a number of refugees as they seek to establish new lives for themselves here in the UK as active, contributing citizens.

Watch the film below, including footage from the British Council event where the film was premiered. You can also find out more about the Refugee Council, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2011, on their website: http://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/

Sorry not to have seen refugee council ads down in Brighton but they sound great. Is there a website with the images?
