Therapeutic potential of Stem Cell research: from test tube to bedside
Newcastle, 28–31 January 2007 (event 0699)

From January 28 - 31, 2007, early career scientists from the US and the UK will gather at the Centre for Life to share their work and take part in a programme that features prominent American and British stem cell researchers.  The atmosphere of this closed workshop will be informal but highly focused, with ample time for full discussion in a relaxed and comfortable setting.
Up to ten candidates from the US and ten from the UK will be selected to participate in the program; travel and expenses will be fully funded by the British Council USA and British Council Seminars.
The four-day event includes individual presentations, a poster session, intimate discussions with experts from the US and UK; and cross-disciplinary brainstorming sessions on challenges, solutions and best practices.

This workshop will strengthen North American-UK relationships by allowing the young scientists to share their experiences with UK researchers who are working in the same field. Links are fostered not only between the young researchers, but also their mentors, projecting an image of British science as creative, innovative and internationally competitive. They also focus attention on the importance of Britain to international science and vice versa.

who should attend this seminar

Applicants must be PhD students in their final year of research or early post-doctoral researchers (within five years of earning a PhD) in fields related to stem cell research.
The competition is open to researchers located in the US and UK.

International Networking for Young Scientists (INYS) is an initiative that supports the British Council’s purpose of ‘nurturing mutually beneficial relationships with other countries’, by encouraging and facilitating the mobility of, and direct contact between, young researchers.  It supports face-to-face meetings between young scientists and engineers from the UK and other countries, for the exchange of ideas, knowledge and information and the building of international connections that assist the innovation process.
