International climate change conference 2007
Bringing scientists together

Birmingham, 25-31 March 2007 (event 0697)

Over the past two years, the British Council has brought together researchers from the UK and other countries at a number of bilateral workshops and meetings around the world to work on issues surrounding climate change, through the ZeroCarbonCity campaign and the International Networking for Young Scientists (INYS) programme.

This event, which will take place in the UK during the week of 25-31 March 2007 is in two parts. The aim is to bring together many of those from the UK and other countries who have participated in recent International Networking for Young Scientists (INYS) activity. It is hoped that this event will foster existing collaborations and support their expansion through networking among participants in different INYS meetings.

During the first part (2 days), participants from other countries will visit their current UK partner at that partner's institution. These two days are intended for planning, development, and/or implementation of existing and future collaboration, enabling participants to discuss potential climate change projects with one another and with counterparts in the UK.

The second part (2 days) of the event will be a conference in Birmingham at which participants from other countries and their UK partners will come together in a large multinational gathering. The conference will offer opportunities to hear from and engage in debate with high-level UK contributors on topics related to climate change and the development of young scientists. Participants will also be given opportunities to present and discuss their own collaborations with the other attendees.  It is hoped that synergies will be found among these collaborations, leading to the inclusion of other participants in future work.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS EVENT

Young researchers who have attended previous INYS events on climate change are being invited to attend. The range of topics is intended to be broad, reflecting the range of topics in the INYS meetings, and ranging from climate physics, through issues of adaptation, mitigation and policy, through to sociological aspects.

Further details of the programme for the second part of the week are now available on the Programme page.
